Dining Room Talk

This chandelier is on its way and I am so excited to see how it looks. Our dining room is small so it will either be fabulous or just too much.

Celeste chandelier Pottery Barn

There is not a lot going on in the room as far as fabric goes...no rug or fabric on the chairs. The drapes are a similar color to the oatmeal walls....for now. They still need to be hung.

Here is a peek at the newly painted chairs and walls. I'm working on a gallery wall of black and white photographs and this is where I'm having a hard time. All along I thought I would be doing black frames but after seeing the paper on the wall, now I'm thinking white. The other day I painted all the mix match frames black and then yesterday I started repainting them. I stopped when I realized I still don't know which way to go. I think I need to wait and see how the chandelier is going to look before I move forward on this. I really wish Pottery Barn sold the chandelier in the store, I can be so impatient.

After living with the gallery wall mock up for the last couple days, I see it needs to move down a bit. I guess that's the good part about moving at a snails pace.

I would love to hear your thoughts.

  1. The chandi is going to be gorgeous! And I am not sure about the frames either. I will have to wait to see the chandelier in place. Black may tie the two together, but maybe the back and white in the photos will be enough if you have white frames. Both sound great!

  2. I'm no decorator, so I don't know. I think I would wait to see how the chandelier looks though, it is very pretty! The frames could be great black, white, or maybe even soft grey?...?

  3. LOVE the chandelier. I don't think it will be too big in the room - it will just be a really fabulous centerpiece. I think the black frames might tie in great with the chandelier, too, but you know I have to see it! I'm impatient, too, so I hope Pottery Barn ships quickly!

  5. i think the chandy will be perfect!! also i think that the frames would look better in black. i say this because i personally think black and white photos look great in black frames, but not as good in white because sometimes the bright white of the frame contrasts too much with the white in the photos and the photos don't stand out as much. the details of the photos sytand out better with black frames. hope this makes sense!

  6. I really really hope that your chandelier does not come in a bunch of pieces as mine did last week.

I do know someone who has this PB chandelier and it looks stunning in their dining room!

  7. I've done enough in this house to realize the only way to go is at a snails pace. Good for you. The chandelier is beautiful. The room color is, too. I think black frames would punctuate the photos better -- draw you in a bit more to see them. HTH. Can't wait to see more pictures. xoxo

  8. Beautiful chandelier, and I also love the wood tone of your table. Since you have painted some of each colour so far, what about taping or hanging one black and one white on the wall to see which appeals to you more. My preference is black, but I do have some white frames in our home too.

  10. That's a beautiful chandelier. It'll be a gorgeous centerpiece in your room! I think the black frames! I think black and white photos always look very striking in black frames...they really pop. And, the balck will tie in with your chandelier. Once you get your chandelier up you will know which way to go! Have fun!

  11. The chairs look great! You are the clever one to tape the gallery like that. Maybe I wouldn't have a bazillion holes in the wall had I used this trick.

  12. Love the chandi! I guess that I should look at PB more often. I don't think they have anything short of fabulous though. I would say black frames with a white mat or border around the pics. I do the same thing and I find the slower is better pace. I need to think things out more.

  13. Exciting changes! I agree that white frames would look really pretty and fresh (a nice contrast with the chandelier). I would move the whole gallery down a bit and maybe add a few more on top for some height. Good luck! Can't wait to see.

  15. I love that chandelier...great choice. What colour frame looks best against your wall? That will be the real test I think.

  18. Maybe you could mix and match the black and white frames and see what you think, you can always go back to one color if you don't care for the more eclectic mix.

You're off to a great start and the new lighting is going to be perfect in your space.

  20. I just LOVE the chandelier. It's going to look perfect in there. I'm not going to be much help with the color of the frames...I can't decide either. I lean towards black frames because it would pick up the color in the chandelier. But then I really like Karen's idea of mixing the black with the white frames. And by the way you were right about the bed...we bought the dark wood bed and it looks great. Thanks :)

  22. I love the chandelier! You may not need the gallery wall there with the chandelier which will surely save you a lot of work unless you are completely set on it. But I feel the space as is, is perfectly simple and that chandelier will be the perfect addition!
